The Mitre Club 2016 Legends of Shore lunch honoured Ross Doig, Head of Art at Shore, 1954-1989. Over 80 Old Boys (with leaving dates ranging from 1934 to 1989), friends of the Shore community and former staff members, gathered to pay tribute to Ross.
Ross’ son, David Doig and daughter, Cathy Mason, were special guests at the lunch. David gave a moving presentation of life with his father, bringing back memories for many who had known David and Cathy when Ross was a Master at Shore.
Graham Lewarne (54) led a panel discussion with a selection of Shore Old Boys who have had their art and architectural designs publicly celebrated. The panel included Philip Cox AO (56), Garry Shead (60), Tim Storrier AM (67), Angus Nivison (71) and Stephen King (76). The panel discussion centred around the influence that Ross had on each one and how he encouraged them in their artistic endeavours.
At the conclusion of the lunch, a tribute board was presented to the school to be hung in the War Memorial Hall. Mr Rod Morrison, Deputy Headmaster accepted the board on behalf of the school.
Outgoing Mitre Club convener, Dr Mick Swinburn (54) thanked the organising committee led by John Sedgwick (57), Mac Jacob (56), Warren Nutt (57), Peter Stevens (59) and Alexandra Macaulay, Alumni Manager.
