OBU SPORTS DAY AND DINNER
Seventy two golfers teed off on a brilliant spring day in the 59th annual Shore Old Boys Union Golf Day at the Pymble Golf Club on Thursday 29 October 2015.
Winner of the Harry Hattersley Shield and Green Jacket with a score of 40 points was Tom Paton (2013). Runner up and winner of the Farram trophy was Alex Paton also from the year of 2013. Both Tom and Alex took out the 2BB competition, while Michael Lee and Charles Vowell representing 1972 were runners up in this category. The Alumni Trophy won last year by the year of 1983 was regained by the year of 1969 represented by Rick Hutchinson, Charlie Horder and Al Hardy. The Father and Son trophy was won by David Forsyth (69) and his son James (98).
Other prize winners included:
Alex Paton and Richard Berkman (83) for Nearest to Pin, Lachie Foulsham (93) Longest Drive, Tom Brown (88) Straightest Drive, Max Purcell Golden Putter and Scratch Golf Roy Spalvins a current parent.
Over at the Elanora club 16 Old Boys competed for the Bowls trophy won this year Philip Steele (50), Philip Slade (59) and David Lilycrop (59).
James Gribble (96) was the guest speaker at dinner. James a keen golfer and a single figure player sadly became a paraplegic following a freak accident a few years ago. James was interviewed by Golf Day committeeman Nick Foord (80). James spoke of his time in banking, his love and passion of golf and how he was determined to play again. Play again he did indeed. Aided by the assistance of 'a caddy' and a specially designed golf cart James plays regularly and played the full 18 holes with us on the day. An inspiration to anyone, young or old that one can overcome adversity.
We look forward to next year's Golf matches at the following venues and dates:
- Tamworth Golf Club in mid May
- DuntryLeague Golf Club, Orange in late September
- Pymble Golf Club in late October
